What is the KROK Exam to Study MBBS in Ukraine?

The KROK exam is an obligatory Licensing Examination that is held in two parts before awarding a student with the qualification of doctor or pharmacist. The KROK Exam is conducted by the Testing Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and both parts are conducted in three different languages viz. Ukrainian, Russian, and English.

The KROK-1 is held at the end of the third year of medical school in Ukraine. This exam is based on general scientific disciplines and general medical training. The exam duration is three and a half hours and comprises 200 multiple-choice questions. If the student achieves a minimum of 60.5% marks in the KROK-1, he/she is eligible to start the fourth year of medical study.

Those who fail to clear the KROK-1 in the first attempt can reappear but may not retake it more than two times. Hence, the student who fails in the third attempt of KROK-1 is expelled from the university.

The KROK-2 is held at the end of the sixth year of medical school in Ukraine. The exam comprises the basic professionally oriented disciplines and provides license to foreign medical students. The exam duration is three hours and twenty minutes and comprises 200 multiple-choice questions just like the KROK-1. If the student achieves a minimum of 60.5% marks in the KROK-2, he/she is eligible to get the medical license. However, candidates who fail the KROK-2 exam may retake it earlier than one year.

This examination is not held for promoting the student as the student has already completed his/her graduation in medicine by the time the KROK-2 is held. Hence, students who do not pass the KROK-2 exam can appear for their final graduate examinations but are not given the licensing Certificate by the university and the Health Ministry of Ukraine. This exam is simply meant for licensing and becoming a doctor in Ukraine.
